IWP Local Access

If you're having trouble opening IWP problem files on your computer, the first thing to do is make sure your web browser isn't blocking the file. For IE, if you see a yellow bar across the top of the window, click on it and allow Active-X controls to run. For FireFox, go to Tools, Options, Content. Uncheck Block Pop-Up windows and check Enable JavaScript and Enable Java. If these strategies don't help, your school may be blocking the URL. This URL needs to be unblocked: http://iwp2.ncssm.edu/.

In the meantime, you can run IWP problems locally on your computer. Here's what to do:

First, make sure that for Windows operating systems, you have your filename viewing options set to show extensions. Go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options. Click on the View tab. "Hide extensions for Known File types" should be unchecked. Then continue below.

Download the iwp jar file (right click on the link and save to your hard drive). When you save the file, name it "iwp.jar" in quotation marks to make sure that the extension is preserved.
Go to the IWP Catalog page. Select the chapter of the problem set and then select the Local download for the file for the problem(s) that you're doing. In order to download, right click on the filename in the Local download column and save it in quotation marks with the extension .iwp, for example, "filename.iwp". Download the file into the same directory as the iwp.jar file.
Double click on the iwp.jar file to open it.
Once the Animator opens, select File, Open, Local File and select the problem file that you downloaded. Click OK to open the file.
