I didn't expect
to be teaching physics when I first entered graduate school at Kansas
State University in 1970. But plans change, and I went half
way around the world to teach high-school students in Laos as soon
as I finished my PhD. That just lasted a year, because my
school was shut down when the government was in upheaval in 1975.
Back in the States, I taught at ECU for a couple of years, then
at a private school in Oklahoma City for more than a decade, and
finally ended up at NCSSM for 20 years before I retired in 2010.
But now I'm back teaching the AP Physics sequence for the NCSSM
Online program. Retirement doesn't mean you have to stop doing what
you enjoy. And teaching online means that you can teach from anywhere. I live in Colorado now.
At NCSSM, I taught all the introductory physics
courses and the AP courses at one time or another. I also taught high-speed
photography. I started doing that in 1984, and I've been teaching the subject and giving workshops
and presentations ever since. We'll be using some high-speed
images and videos in this course from time to time.
I also enjoy wilderness trekking and outdoor
photography. My favorite place to hike is the Grand Canyon,
and my favorite places to canoe are the BWCA and Quetico canoeing wildernesses. I always have my camera gear with me. Loren
