P135. Conservation of Energy and More

Use the formal problem-solving protocol.

Part A

  1. Study this example of a connected object problem that is solved using conservation of energy. Then solve problem 82 at the end of Chapter 8. The conservation of energy method is required.

  2. Study this example of a conservation of energy problem involving circular motion. Then solve the problem that you selected in the Doodle poll. Note that this is not group work. Solve your problem individually. The problems have both a conservation of energy and a net force component. The latter involves circular motion. In all of the problems, dvats may not be used to find magnitudes of velocities, because the acceleration is non-uniform.

Part B

  1. Study this example of a problem involving a spring. Then solve problem 86 at the end of Chapter 8.
